It
is important that the initiate meet with their houngan or manbo before
initiation. Ideally the initiate
should have visited the house to see how it functions and to participate in
services more than once. Initiation into Vodou creates serious mutual obligations
between both the initiating priest and the initiate. In all cases, the seeker is
advised to select carefully who they want to work with and/or give them their kanzo
because once done it cannot be undone.
As
the elders say, there is no rush to get to Ginea. These things should be done
slowly, carefully, and with the greatest consideration for this event is every bit
as important as birth, marriage, or death.
